Keeping Your Thoughts in Meditation

Shifting from Distraction to Presence with Curiosity

While quieting the mind supports meditation, the goal isn’t to get rid of your thoughts. The mind secretes thoughts like the body secretes enzymes! So don’t be at war with your thoughts. Instead of judging when you find you’ve been distracted, bring curiosity and kindness as you shift from thoughts to presence.

When you recognise that you’ve been lost in thought, gently ‘relax back’ by returning your attention to the sounds, sensations and feelings that are actually happening in the present. Allow your anchor point to be in the foreground, and become aware of your experience changing from moment to moment.
