Why Do I Feel So Overwhelmed All the Time?(Understanding Emotional Burnout in Women)

If you’ve found yourself wondering,
“Why do I feel so overwhelmed all the time?” —you are not alone.

Many women I work with share this quietly.
A sense of carrying so much… while still showing up for everyone else.

Not just busy — but emotionally and mentally exhausted.
Not just tired — but feeling like there’s no space left for you.

This is often what emotional burnout can feel like.

And I want to gently say…
I understand this struggle.

Because I live this too.

Running two businesses, being present as a parent, continuing my studies, maintaining my meditation practice, getting to the gym, and making time for connection… when I pause and really look at it, there are moments where it feels like a lot.

And like so many of us, I’ve caught myself saying:
“I just don’t have time.”

No time to rest.
No time to feel.
No time for me.

But the truth is…
time is the one thing we do have.

And sometimes, it’s not about having more time —
but about gently returning to ourselves within the time that’s already here.

What Causes Overwhelm and Emotional Burnout in Women?

Feeling overwhelmed all the time is not a sign that something is wrong with you.

It is often your nervous system saying:
“This is too much to hold on my own.”

Many women are carrying:

  • The invisible emotional and mental load
  • Unprocessed trauma, grief or past experiences
  • Chronic stress and anxiety
  • The pressure to keep it all together
  • Very little time to pause, process, or be supported

Over time, this can lead to emotional burnout, where your system begins to feel tired, overloaded, and stretched beyond capacity.

Signs You May Be Feeling Overwhelmed or Emotionally Exhausted

You might notice:

  • Waking during the night, sometimes multiple times, with no clear reason
  • A quiet but persistent feeling that something isn’t quite right
  • Tension stored in the body — shoulders, chest, jaw
  • Feeling teary, reactive, or at times… numb
  • Difficulty concentrating or feeling mentally foggy
  • Thoughts like “What’s wrong with me?”

If this feels familiar, please know…

There is nothing wrong with you.
Your body is responding in the way it was designed to when it has been holding too much, for too long.

A Gentle Way to Cope with Overwhelm

When we feel overwhelmed, the instinct is often to push through…
to keep going… to hold it together, to be the glue that holds onto everything!.

But what if the way forward is not through pushing but through softening?

For me, my meditation practice has become a soft and gentle window into my soul.

Not something I have to get right. Not something to achieve. Just a space where I can be with myself, just as I am.

There are moments where difficult thoughts, emotions, or sensations arise…
and instead of turning away, I gently turn toward them.

Sometimes I place my hand over my heart and say:
“It’s okay sweetheart… this is hard.”

And I pause.

I might softly name or note what is present:

  • “This is anxiety”
  • “This is tension”
  • “This feels heavy”

And then I pause again.

Not to fix it. Not to change it. Just to be with it.

Because…

The pathway back to presence lives within the body.

Your body holds a quiet, innate wisdom for regulation.
And when we begin to listen with gentleness and compassion, the nervous system can slowly soften… settle… and feel safe enough to let go, even just a little.

When Your Body Is Asking for Support

Those nights where you wake again and again…
The tension that lingers in your body…
That feeling that something isn’t quite right, or that something is wrong with you…

These are not things to ignore or push away.

They are gentle signals. Invitations to slow down.

To begin meeting yourself in a more nurturing and compassionate way.

Because what you’re feeling doesn’t need to be fixed it needs to be held.

And when we create space to gently tend to what is arising,
with kindness and care, something begins to shift.
