Meet Natalie

Hi, I’m Natalie.

I am a Mum of two amazing young adults, wife, animal and bird lover. We currently have two exotic parrots and a labradoodle named Poppy, so our home can be filled with much noise and chaos. I have a special admiration for pelicans. My favourite place to unwind is at the beach, I often spend hours meditating, bird watching and connecting to nature.

As a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association, I understand the transformative power of integrating evidence-based strategies with embodied wisdom practices to create a life filled with meaning, purpose, and productivity. Having navigated through several of life’s challenges, (multiple surgeries, domestic violence and lymphoma cancer) I’ve experienced the pain of suffering, feeling stuck, and completely overwhelmed. This can result in low energy, disrupted sleep, headaches, digestive issues, chronic pain conditions, heightened anxiety, constant rumination as well as persistent procrastination and excuses.

The key realisation is that our lives do not need to be chaotic. There is another way and with the right support this can be achieved by all of us.

Over 25 years ago, my own struggles led me to being introduced to meditation specifically mindfulness practices, and after years of practice with various teachers and groups, it has profoundly impacted my personal, professional, and parenting life. Within my clinic my mission is to share my insights to support you and help you save time, potentially alleviating some of your suffering, so you can live a life that you LOVE.

The therapies that I have found most supportive and that I specialise in are Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as adult group facilitation of mindfulness meditation and mindfulness program/classes for children.

Benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

I’m incredibly passionate about sharing the numerous benefits of practicing mindfulness and meditation – from reducing feelings of anxiety, overwhelm and stress, to enjoying more calm, clarity and connection.

There’s no one ‘right way’ to meditate. There are many ways, and finding a style that suits you and your lifestyle will make it far more enjoyable and effective. When you commit to even just a few minutes of meditation a day, you’ll see real results in all areas of your life. And when you feel overwhelmed and your nervous system goes into overdrive to fight, flight or freeze (which can compromise your immune system), meditation and mindfulness techniques help to calm and settle the body, mind and spirit – so you can find a sense of spaciousness and ease from chaotic, anxious thoughts.

With the surge in science based mindfulness skills, these can be your support and assist with challenging life experiences. Mindfulness is a special interest of mine, one which I have completed specialised training as this can be life changing to learn and has been my support system for many years now.

A chat with Natalie

Moving through some significant life and health challenges, I found myself searching for something that could help support me to develop a greater connection and balance within. A holistic practitioner first introduced me to meditation over 15 years ago. From there I began to research mindful meditation and its benefits. This has led me on a wondrous educational and emotional building journey, joining several different local meditation groups over the years, attending occasional weekend retreats and also following global inspirational teachers like Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg and Thich Nhat Hahn amongst others via YouTube and also using apps like Insight Timer and Headspace.

Developing my daily mindful meditation practice has helped me to notice simple presence, be aware of where I am and what I am doing, and not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around me. I’ve also become a happier and more balanced person in all areas of my life, and I am filled with gratitude each day for my practice. I am incredibly passionate about sharing the transformative power of meditation, mindfulness and other contemplative practices to those who seek to live and work with calm, balance, focus, clarity, wellbeing, presence, and the full capacity of our rational and intuitive mind.

I’ve felt compelled to share my knowledge and experience for several years now. My decision to become a registered counsellor from my studies with The Institute of Applied Psychology enables me to offer a trauma sensitive approach in a caring environment across all my services. Furthering my knowledge with the achievement of my Post Graduate Diploma in mindfulness and meditation offers something different but grounded. In our fast paced world filled with people DOING there seems to be no time left for us to simply BE. My goal is to offer a space where you can simply BE. Your nervous system can move to a rest state and find a place of calm and peace.

Clients can also feel confident that I have a grounded, professional and solid foundation – and that I facilitate each session or practice with compassion, supporting each clients  individual journey with heartfelt care, encouragement and validation.

Mindfulness and meditation teaches you to pay attention to what’s happening inside and outside of you in the present moment. It’s non-judgmental and greeted with a gentle acceptance. You can begin by simply taking a pause or a breath. With practice, it can also enhance your mental clarity and performance. If you’re searching for a way to feel more relaxed and balanced – or maybe you feel trapped in habits that aren’t serving your relationships at work or at home – mindful meditation can be a way to change these areas by arriving in the present moment with awareness. Mindfulness practice can bring a deeper connection and understanding with ourselves, assist us to be more centered and grounded, create a feeling where we are at home with ourselves and others, and to be comfortable in our own skin.

Our mind is involved in everything we do. It governs our thoughts, emotions, behaviour, perspective and engagement with the world. It also influences our personality, experience, relationships, creativity and happiness. Scientific research has proven that the long-term benefits of meditation are greater self-control, enhanced flexibility, equanimity, improved concentration and mental clarity, emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to others and one’s self with kindness, acceptance and compassion. Looking after my mind is the best investment I have made for my health and wellbeing, for when my mind works well everything within me works well.
